Sharp increase in tick bite cases across Russia

Russian health authorities are reporting worrying data regarding the seasonal tick infestation. According to a report by the channel Пул N3, which is aligned with the official line of the Moscow administration, over 176,000 people have required medical treatment after being bitten since the start of the tick activity season.

The channel notes that the highest concentration of inquiries was recorded in the Sverdlovsk, Kemerovo, Tyumen, Chelyabinsk, Irkutsk, Vologda, Kirov, Kostroma, and Novosibirsk regions. According to Пул N3, which highlights the recommendations of Rospotrebnadzor (the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing), "the most effective means of protection against tick-borne viral encephalitis is vaccination."

At the same time, the channel Новости Москвы reports that "Moscow is among the leading cities in reports of tick bites." According to the channel, which tends to emphasize pro-government messages and centers content around Putin's policies, 2.7 million Russian citizens have been vaccinated this year against viral encephalitis transmitted by these insects.

Health experts recommend that residents of endemic areas and travelers in these regions strictly adhere to vaccination as a primary preventative measure against diseases transmitted through bites.
