Widespread Wave of Drone Attacks and Flight Disruptions in Southern Russia and Ukraine

This past weekend saw a significant escalation in aerial military activity, expressed in a widespread reciprocal wave of drone attacks between Russia and Ukraine. According to RT and Russian aviation authorities, a "Carpet" state (airspace restrictions) was declared at the airports of Vladikavkaz, Grozny, and Magas, following alerts regarding drone activity in the North Caucasus regions.

Simultaneously, the Ukraine.ru agency (identified with clear pro-Russian positions) reported the interception of 12 drones over the Voronezh region and repeated alerts in the Kursk region. On the other hand, CIT activists report a difficult and lethal reality for civilians on both sides of the border. According to their reports, between May 29 and May 31, many civilians were killed in Ukraine as a result of drone attacks and shelling, including cases in the Chernihiv, Sumy, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Odesa regions.

In territories occupied by Russia, Ukrainian and independent sources reported additional casualties as a result of attacks, including the death of a 6-year-old child in the city of Henichesk. The reports indicate ongoing damage to civilian and critical infrastructure, with areas such as Sumy and Marhanets experiencing severe disruptions in electricity and water supply following attacks on energy facilities.

Aerial combat did not cease even on the frontline sectors, as military blogger Kirill Fedorov reported precise strikes by the Russian Air Force against Ukrainian forces in the Kharkiv region. The current confrontations reflect a pattern of operation where drones have become the primary weapon for both sides, both for the purposes of military strikes and for disrupting the routine of life and civilian infrastructure in the rear.
