The Russian Ministry of Communications announced that starting June 1st, government fees for telephone numbering resources will be doubled, reports Readovka. This is the first update of its kind since 2014, with the price for a single phone number set to jump from 50 to 100 rubles, while the cost of a mobile communication network identification code will rise from 3.25 million to 6.5 million rubles.
According to the report by Readovka, known for its distinctly pro-Russian line, the increase is expected to primarily affect telecommunications operators that have exhausted their available stock of numbers. Industry sources estimate that some companies may purchase numbers "with advance stock" before the changes take effect, while others are expected to "pass the costs on to customers."
The report was also confirmed by the channel Больше, чем экономика, a pro-Russian oriented economic channel, which emphasized that the changes could lead to an increase in operational expenses for telecommunications companies. The rise in fees comes after a 12-year period in which prices remained unchanged, with the last update taking place in 2014, when the price rose from 20 to 50 rubles.
