Reports of tens of thousands of tick bite cases across Russia, alongside an unusual and rare case of a parasite found on a young woman's eyelid.

Seasonal outbreak of tick bites in Russia

According to a report by Новости Москвы (a channel identified with support for the Russian government), since the beginning of the tick activity season this year, more than 43,000 visits to hospitals following bites have been recorded in Russia. Data from authorities show that about 2.2 million people have already been vaccinated against tick-borne encephalitis, with Moscow leading the list of cities with a high rate of bite reports.

Rare medical case: A tick found in the eye

In parallel with the national trend, several channels reported an unusual case in which a 26-year-old woman who returned from a trip to Sakhalin discovered a live tick between her eyelashes. According to Москва 24, the young woman felt discomfort for nearly 24 hours before realizing it was a parasite. The case also received resonance in Московский Комсомолец and Новости 18+, where it was noted that doctors who treated the young woman testified that they "encountered such a case for the first time." The parasite was successfully removed and sent for laboratory testing.

Meanwhile, it was reported on 12 Канал | Новости Омска about a severe medical case in Omsk, where a 43-year-old patient was rushed to the hospital in serious condition after neglecting an ear infection for two months. Doctors had to drain about 30 ml of pus from the skull area after a destructive process formed in the bone, which necessitated urgent surgical intervention to prevent meningitis.
