[50657] Extensive wave of attacks in Russia: Hits on strategic facilities and residential buildings in Cheboksary
Extensive wave of aerial attacks in Russia: Focus on Cheboksary
This morning (May 5, 2026), an unusually large wave of attacks involving drones and missiles was reported against several districts in Russia. The center of the events was the city of Cheboksary, where the "VNIIR-Progress" plant, which produces electronic components for GLONASS, GPS, and equipment for missile and drone systems, was attacked. According to the Telegram channel identified with the Belarusian military, the attack included a combination of "Flamingo"-type missiles and attack drones.
Simultaneously with the strike on the defense facility, there were reports of a direct drone hit on residential buildings in the city. The news agency NEXTA reported that a drone collided with the sixth floor of an apartment building, causing damage to at least eight apartments and the evacuation of residents. Local authorities, as published in Serditaya Chuvashia, ordered a complete halt to public transportation in the city due to fears of further attacks.
Against the backdrop of these events, a narrative clash was recorded between various sources. While the Russian Ministry of Defense released a summary of dozens of drones that were intercepted in various districts, the opposition channel Serditaya Chuvashia emphasized that Russian authorities are deliberately ignoring the hits in Cheboksary. At the same time, a Ukrainian Telegram channel claimed in its own version that the attack hit a "safe house for FSB personnel," a claim that has no official verification.
The attack did not skip other regions; the Ateo Breaking channel noted that missile fire alerts were heard in 18 Russian districts, including in Khanty-Mansiysk, which is about 2,000 km from the border. Explosions and intense drone activity were also reported in the area of the city of Odessa in Ukraine during the night and morning, indicating a mutual escalation in the aerial theater.
