[49744] Tension in the Persian Gulf: Reports of a naval confrontation near the Strait of Hormuz
Confrontation in the Strait of Hormuz: Conflicting reports of an Iranian attack
Peak tension was recorded today in the Strait of Hormuz after the Iranian news agency Fars, affiliated with the Ayatollah regime, reported that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy launched two missiles at an American military vessel near Jask Island. According to the report, the ship "ignored warnings" and sustained a hit that forced it to change course and retreat from the area. Other channels identified with Russian and anti-Western positions, such as Операция Z: Военкоры Русской Весны, highlighted the presentation of Iran's new "zone of control" in the straits.
Conversely, US Central Command (CENTCOM) and official sources in Washington dismissed the claims outright. According to reports by journalist Barak Ravid, an American official clarified that "no US Navy vessel was hit" and that US forces continue to operate under the "Freedom of Navigation" project to secure maritime passages.
At the same time, the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported, as published by TASS, that an ADNOC oil tanker was attacked by two unmanned aerial vehicles in the area. The move led to a sharp rise in crude oil prices, as noted by financial channels like MarketTwits, due to fears of a security escalation that would disrupt global energy supply routes.
Security officials in Israel, including the IntelliNews channel, noted that even if this was a "warning shot" that caused no major damage, it constitutes a serious provocation by Iran aimed at projecting power in the region. Channels affiliated with the Revolutionary Guards have already published maps defining new "zones of control," which effectively constitute an explicit threat to international freedom of navigation.
