Fuel Crisis in the Crimean Peninsula: Russia Restricts Sales to Civilians

Following attacks by Ukraine and the subsequent shortages, Russian authorities in the Crimean Peninsula announced an unusual measure today (June 21, 2026): a sweeping ban on the sale of fuel to civilians and private businesses.

According to a report by Asaf Rozenzweig, World News, Sergey Aksyonov, a senior official representing the Russian authorities in Crimea, clarified in a Telegram post that starting at 9:00 AM, gas stations across the peninsula will cease selling fuel to the general public, regardless of the payment method used. According to Aksyonov, fuel will henceforth be allocated "only for state services responsible for maintaining life and security in Crimea."

A similar report was also published by News Line, which notes that the step comes as a direct response to "attacks by Ukraine" that led to the severe shortage. According to News Line, the new policy does not distinguish between cash, credit cards, or vouchers, and marks the Russian effort to centralize critical resources for the benefit of the war effort and the survival of the security apparatus in the region.

Reports from both channels point to a growing severity in the logistical situation on the peninsula, as the authorities choose to sacrifice the needs of the civilian population in order to ensure the continuity of the operation of Russian security mechanisms.
