[87638] Political storm and violent clashes at Haredi protests against conscription
A political storm follows police violence at Haredi protests against conscription, as Shas chairman Aryeh Deri calls on Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir to intervene in what is happening.
Severe clashes at Haredi protests: The political system is in an uproar
A stormy day passed on the streets of Bnei Brak, as Haredi protests against conscription deteriorated into severe physical clashes with police forces. In footage circulated on Daniel Amram without censorship, a channel that presents a critical line towards the entire political and police system, citizens were seen forcefully clearing a path and young men were seen bruised and bleeding. The police responded by stating that it was an "illegal demonstration" and that "reasonable force" was used.
Following the events, Shas chairman Aryeh Deri harshly attacked Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir, writing on YINONEWS (a channel associated with right-wing positions): "It is inconceivable that what the police did not do in Kaplan... they are now doing to citizens who are crying out." Deri called on Ben-Gvir: "Wake up! Get up now and stop the police violence."
The argument between the two escalated to the political arena. On Political Arena, which serves as a platform for political updates, Deri's response to Ben-Gvir's claims regarding the Attorney General was brought up, as he lashed out at the minister: "The one who used severe violence this morning is not the Attorney General, but the police officers under your command." On the other hand, Ben-Gvir responded in an interview with 'Kol Chai' and noted that he is not looking for a political fight, but defined the incident as "not good."
At the same time, parliamentary actions were recorded by other Knesset members. MK Meir Porush demanded an urgent discussion in the National Security Committee on the subject of "discriminatory enforcement policy," while MK Yaya Fink announced the filing of a police complaint against Porush, alleging incitement against the Attorney General (Political Arena).
