Tension surrounding police activity at Haredi sector protests

On June 17, 2026, severe allegations were raised by media figures regarding the manner in which the police manage protests by the Haredi public. Journalist Avi Moskov claimed on Israel News IL that the police forces' modus operandi includes "dismantling protesters with brutal beatings," the use of stun grenades aimed at faces, and striking with batons. According to the report on Israel News IL, the stated goal of these actions is "to take away the protesters' desire to demonstrate again" and to create deterrence through physical punishment, which led Moskov to describe the Police Commissioner as a "disgrace."

At the same time, criticism was directed at the Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir. On Zirat HaHadashot, Moskov attacked the fact that the Minister "is doing nothing to prevent the arrest of Torah scholars." According to Zirat HaHadashot, even if Ben-Gvir is not acting on the issue of the arrests, he is expected at the very least "to prevent the next murder of a Haredi by a bloodthirsty policeman."
