A political drama took place today (May 20, 2026) at the Knesset's Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, when Tomer Wiener, identified with Naftali Bennett's reservists' headquarters, interrupted a discussion dealing with recruitment issues. Wiener arrived at the hearing wearing a shtreimel, in an unusual protest intended to draw the attention of committee members.
According to Dafna Liel (known for focused political coverage of the establishment), Wiener shouted at those present: "Go up to the north, look at us," with the aim of demanding more serious treatment from the government toward reserve soldiers. Amir Ettinger & Yuval Segev reported that Wiener directed his words to the Minister of Defense's representative and said to him: "Maybe this way you will relate to us".
On the other hand, Yinon Magal (known for his stance supporting Netanyahu and the government) criticized the event and called Wiener's actions "a performance" within the framework of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee.
