Thwarting of a large-scale political assassination plot in Yemen's interim capital
The security services of the Saudi-backed Yemeni government announced today (May 18, 2026) the thwarting of one of the largest political assassination plans ever designed in the city of Aden. Yemeni Minister of Interior, Ibrahim Haydan, revealed the details in an interview with the newspaper "Asharq Al-Awsat".
According to the report on Kan 11 | Palestinian Arabs Desk, which is identified with a line critical of Israel and pro-Iranian elements, the Interior Minister noted that this is an "intelligence war" intended to harm state institutions. Investigations conducted after the thwarting of the cells revealed that they enjoyed "external funding and logistical support".
At the same time, the Unity of Arenas | Shachar Kleiman, Arabs Desk channel reported that security forces carried out a preemptive strike against the terror cell that sought to target senior political and security officials. According to the minister, in the possession of the cell members were documents, maps, and technological tools that exposed the scale of the plot and its objectives.
As of this stage, the Yemeni government has not explicitly stated which foreign entities are behind the plan, but emphasized that this is an attempt to undermine stability in the interim capital, Aden.
