Presidential Award for Volunteering for the Year 5786
According to reports from NTD Hebrew News, the names of the recipients of the "Presidential Award for Volunteering" for the year 5786 have been published. The initiative, founded in 1974 by the fourth President, the late Prof. Ephraim Katzir, following the Yom Kippur War, marks 52 years of its founding this year as an expression of appreciation for exceptional social work in Israel.
Notable Individuals Who Won the Award
Among the individuals selected this year are Prof. Assi Sharon, who served in the National Center of Forensic Medicine after October 7, and Dr. Gilat Meir Reish, who founded a network of female physicians providing assistance to war widows. Also receiving the award were Yehiel Tabibi (91) for establishing a day center for children with Down syndrome, and Nativ Bitan (18), a young man on the autism spectrum who founded initiatives to promote inclusion among teenagers.
Others noted for their work include Yitzhak Ashchar for his work among the elderly, Meira Lotan, founder of "Beit Romi" for community empowerment, Nariman Taleb Rabi for strengthening ties between Arab and Jewish society, and philanthropist Shari Arison, initiator of "Good Deeds Day," which operates in 115 countries.
