This week was characterized by intense discussions in the Knesset surrounding two core issues: the outline for conscription to the IDF and the government's attempts to advance reforms in the judicial system. A stormy discussion was held in the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee regarding the law to freeze arrests for the Haredim, as the committee's legal counsel presented a firm position against the law, arguing that it is a "pardon clause" that creates an "bypass route" with the goal of avoiding the regulation of the status of Torah scholars through comprehensive legislation.

Miri Frankel Shor, the legal advisor to the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, explained that despite the attempts to find a solution, it is not possible to accept "only one part of the solution" without anchoring sanctions and real supervision. On the other hand, Cabinet Secretary Yossi Fuchs, in a discussion at the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, warned that imposing forced conscription could lead to broad radicalization within the Haredi public: "If this event of conscription happens by force, the entire Haredi public will become the Jerusalem Faction."

Meanwhile, it was revealed that the Religious Zionism faction is expected to support a Basic Law for Torah Study, a move that raises concerns that it will grant Torah scholars a constitutional status superior to that of IDF soldiers. A member of the faction, MK Moshe Solomon, expressed public reservations about the arrest law and called for stopping legislation that does not seem like a proper solution to him.

At the same time, in the Constitution Committee, a violent explosion occurred during a discussion on the law to split and weaken the role of the Attorney General, after opposition representatives were removed from the room. The committee chairman, MK Simcha Rothman, leveled harsh criticism at the Attorney General's representatives, defining her performance as "dictatorial" and claiming that the advancement of the legislation was done at an appropriate time.
