Banking services in Iran restored after a planned malfunction
The banking system in Iran has returned to full operation following a significant malfunction that disrupted the use of credit cards across the country. According to a report by the Iranian Information Services Company, the disruptions were not accidental but were taken as a proactive measure: "This disruption was carried out with the goal of preventing unauthorized access and protecting information security and customer assets," as published in Akharin Khabar.
Similar messages were published by other official and local channels, including IRNA, Zagros News, and Khorasan Online, which confirmed that services have returned to their normal course. The malfunction raised concerns among the public regarding the security of financial transactions.
Warnings against financial fraud
In parallel with the reassurances, law enforcement officials in Iran are warning against attempts to exploit the instability in the system. The IRNA news agency, which is identified with government positions, published a warning from the Cyber Police (FATA) stating that "hostile elements are exploiting the situation and making telephone calls to business owners." According to the report, the perpetrators present themselves as technicians for payment terminals (POS) and claim that a device update must be performed due to communication malfunctions, all in order to extract personal or financial details from the merchants.
