Various sources, led by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, report that following an intensive round of negotiations, a formal peace agreement has been reached between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran. According to reports, the agreement includes an "immediate and permanent cessation of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon." The official signing ceremony is scheduled for Friday, June 19, and will be held in Switzerland.
In a report published by IRNA News Agency, Kazem Gharibabadi, Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran, was quoted as confirming that the "draft memorandum is being finalized" and that the agreement also includes "the lifting of the naval blockade" imposed by the US. Gharibabadi emphasized that Iran insisted that all its demands be included in the final text before agreeing to sign. Additionally, Sputnik Afghanistan reported that Donald Trump also addressed the agreement and confirmed reaching understandings with Tehran.
Countries in the region responded quickly to the publications. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar welcomed the agreement, with Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani noting that it is a "significant step toward promoting peace." At the same time, the foreign ministers of Pakistan and Turkey held coordination talks and expressed hope that the move would lead to sustainable regional stability.
However, there are somewhat conflicting reports regarding the parties' readiness. Fars News, which is close to the Revolutionary Guards, quoted an anonymous source stating that Iran is "still examining certain reservations" in the draft, while CNN reported that a Qatari delegation has landed in Tehran to help bridge the final gaps before the official signing.
