On the weekend of May 23, 2026, Pakistan is at the center of extensive diplomatic and economic activity. According to Sputnik Afghanistan, a media outlet known for a line close to Russia and emphasizing China's influence in the region, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, is visiting Beijing. During this visit, the two countries are expected to sign about 100 agreements worth a total of about $5 billion. According to Sputnik, the agreements will focus on expanding the "China-Pakistan Economic Corridor" to include agriculture, information technology, and resource mining.

At the same time, the Pakistan Study Center – a channel focused on Pakistani political analysis – reports on Islamabad's involvement in mediation between Tehran and Washington. According to the channel, the Pakistani Army Chief, Asim Munir, arrived in Tehran to discuss a possible agreement between Iran and the United States.

This move is receiving regional support, as a Qatari diplomatic source noted in a conversation with the Al Jazeera network, as reported by the Pakistan Study Center, that a visit by a Qatari delegation to Tehran was intended "as part of support for the mediation efforts of the Pakistani side." Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Esmaeil Baghaei, confirmed the arrival of the Qatari delegation in Iran.

Despite reports of warming relations with China, Abdullah Khan, head of the "Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies," estimated in a conversation with Sputnik that despite the strong security ties, no significant new arms deals are expected during the visit to Beijing. Instead, the burning issues on Sharif's agenda in China are expected to be economic cooperation and sensitive diplomatic contacts regarding Iran.
