Reuters news agency reports, citing two senior Iranian sources, that the leader of the Islamic Republic, Mojtaba Khamenei, has officially ordered that the highly enriched uranium stockpiles (close to military grade) must remain inside Iran. According to the report, the decision reflects a consensus within the regime's leadership, which fears that removing these materials will make the country more vulnerable to future attacks by the United States and Israel.
The new directive complicates negotiations for a ceasefire, as it contradicts one of the central demands of the American administration. Iran International, a media outlet identified with a critical stance toward the regime in Tehran, notes that Israeli officials clarified to Reuters that President Donald Trump promised Israel that any future agreement must include the demand to remove enriched uranium from Iran.
The Epoch Times, which emphasizes technical data, notes that according to International Atomic Energy Agency estimates, Tehran held about 440 kilograms of uranium enriched to 60% at the time of the attacks carried out in June 2025. Conversely, the 'Payam Iran' channel notes that as an alternative, the option of diluting the stockpiles under international supervision is on the table, a framework that could serve as a potential compromise in negotiations.
