As reported on Esteghlal Fans Channel, the initiative is not new, as "the proposal was first raised a few months ago by the South American Football Confederation". This proposal also gained wide resonance on the channels Akharin Khabar Varzeshi and Akharin Khabar, which report that "there are plans according to which FIFA will increase the number of teams in the 2030 World Cup to 66".
