According to a report by Fars International and Foreign Policy, a channel identified with positions critical of Israel in the Middle East, the Australian Foreign Minister, Penny Wong, condemned what she defined as "inhumane behavior" by Israel toward the activists and announced the filing of an official protest to the ambassador in Tel Aviv. The official report notes that the protest was conveyed early Thursday morning.

Simultaneously, IRNA News Agency – the official news agency of Iran, which presents a consistent line of hostility toward Israeli policy – reported that New Zealand also joined Australia's move.
