Reports: Covert Saudi Arabian airstrikes against Iran
The Reuters news agency published an exclusive report stating that Saudi Arabia carried out several undeclared airstrikes against Iran during the ongoing war in the Middle East. According to the report, which relies on two Western sources and two Iranian sources, the attacks took place at the end of March as "response measures" to attacks Saudi Arabia suffered on its own soil.
In a report by DW Persian, it is noted that this is a significant strategic shift: unlike in recent decades, when Riyadh relied on the "United States military umbrella," this time it appears Saudi Arabia has moved to a "direct response phase." Other media outlets, including Epoch Times Persian and RFI, emphasized that this is the first time direct Saudi military activity has been documented inside Iran's borders, indicating a "bolder" stance by Riyadh against its regional rival.
At the same time, intense regional coordination has been reported. According to Akharin Khabar and Fars News (a media outlet identified with the conservative narrative in Iran), a telephone conversation took place between Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed. The conversation dealt with "increasing regional security" and developing cooperation, against the backdrop of what the Al-Arabiya network defined as "a total lack of diplomatic progress" to end the conflict between Iran and the U.S.
Official sources in Saudi Arabia and Iran have refrained from directly confirming the specific details of the attacks, while Payam Iran notes that despite the military escalation and mutual warnings, diplomatic channels between the countries remain open.
