Clarifications in Tehran regarding policy in the Strait of Hormuz
During statements released today, May 11, 2026, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson rejected claims that there is a dispute between the Foreign Ministry's position and the regime's official policy regarding the Strait of Hormuz. According to the Akhbar-e Fori Jang-e Amrika Fori channel, which is associated with the positions of the Iranian security establishment, the Foreign Ministry is an "inseparable part of the Islamic Republic" and every decision made at the highest levels is absolutely binding on the ministry.
The spokesperson referred to the steps taken by Iran since February 28, 2026, following what he defined as "military aggression by the US and the Zionist regime." According to the report on the Akhbar-e Fori channel, Iran views its actions in the Strait of Hormuz as a move anchored in "international law and domestic laws," out of a need to prevent the exploitation of the strategic waterway by hostile elements.
Simultaneously, the Hami-an-e Pezeshkian channel, which is identified with supporters of President Pezeshkian, emphasized the central message of the Iranian Foreign Ministry that "any interference in the affairs of the Strait of Hormuz will only lead to a complication of the situation." These remarks come as part of an attempt to present a unified political line to the international community, while pushing back against claims of a lack of synchronization between the country's diplomatic and military arms.
