Ahead of the start of the 2026 World Cup tournament, FIFA is facing growing public criticism regarding its ticket pricing policy. Iran International Sport reports that FIFA President Gianni Infantino has defended the record prices for the tournament, which include tickets for the final match being traded on the secondary market for prices exceeding $2 million. According to Infantino, he even offered to provide a "hot dog and a Coca-Cola" to anyone who purchases a ticket at this price to ensure them an "extraordinary experience."

Criticism of FIFA is coming not only from fans but also from official organizations. Football Supporters Europe (FSE) described the pricing structure as "extortion" and a "massive betrayal." Conversely, Infantino argued that 25% of the tickets for the group stage are priced at less than $300, a price he claims is lower than that standard for professional sports games in the United States.

At the same time, a significant question mark hangs over the tournament's exposure in the massive markets of Asia. According to a report by Iran International Sport, FIFA has yet to sign broadcast rights contracts in China and India. This is a highly unusual situation, as in the 2022 World Cup, viewers from China accounted for about 50% of all digital viewing hours worldwide.

While FIFA has managed to secure broadcast rights in 175 regions around the world, an official statement from the organization noted that talks with India and China are still ongoing and remain under a veil of secrecy. The current situation represents a significant departure from the past, when government networks such as China's CCTV secured broadcast rights many months before the start of the tournament.
