Update on the کالبرگ (Kal-barg) program: Expected increase in Iranian food subsidies
According to reports from several news channels, including حامیان پزشکیان, آخرین قیمت, and آخرین خبر, authorities in Iran are considering increasing the monthly 'Kal-barg' (food voucher) amount for May 2026.
Ramin, who heads the committee overseeing laws within the Parliament's Social Committee, noted that the goal is to "maintain the desired food basket in line with the rise in inflation." According to him, if the decision is implemented in accordance with the rise in the exchange rate, which has jumped by approximately 26% since November 2025, the subsidy amount is expected to increase from 1 million Tomans to 1,260,000 Tomans.
According to حامیان پزشکیان, the move is contingent on a final agreement between the government and parliament, as well as finding the necessary budgetary sources to fund the difference. The source notes that "as soon as the exact amount is agreed upon and the government secures the resources, the public will be informed and the amount will be deposited into their accounts."
These reports have also been confirmed by the channels آخرین خبر مشهد and اخبار معیشتی, which highlight the growing economic pressure on households in light of the current macroeconomic situation in Iran.
