[68559] Mercedes unveils the electric AMG GT: Blistering power alongside intense design controversy
Mercedes unveils the electric AMG GT 4-Door Coupé
Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the full electric version of the AMG GT 4-Door Coupé, a vehicle with extremely powerful performance that redefines the connection between the world of electric cars and the AMG world of Affalterbach. According to MercedesBenzUSA, the vehicle combines the "raw power of a supercar" along with ultra-fast charging capabilities that simulate a "pit-stop in a race."
Impressive technical specifications
According to SawyerMerritt, the vehicle is equipped with a 106 kWh battery that allows for a range of about 315 miles (according to EPA standards) and charging from 10% to 80% in just 11 minutes. The car produces 1,153 hp and is capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 2.0 seconds. At the same time, carwowuk reported an even higher output of 1,169 hp, noting that the vehicle includes a "realistic V8 engine soundtrack" and a gear-shifting simulation.
Disagreements over design and concept
While the technical specifications are impressive, the vehicle's exterior design is absorbing sharp criticism from users. The user tzukima described the car as "hideously ugly," and other users such as soupslaps defined the design as a "terrifying disaster." Verstappenn_ also expressed frustration, noting that car manufacturers are "making increasingly ugly cars with no soul."
On the other hand, Verterex_Prop attempted to compare the controversy to the fashion world, and mentioned how Kanye West's Yeezy shoes were criticized at first but became a sought-after brand over time, hinting that the innovative design may become a cultural convention later on.
