[108563] Extensive missile and drone attacks in Kyiv and in response - Ukrainian strikes deep into Russia
Severe escalation in reciprocal attacks between Russia and Ukraine
Over the past day, Ukraine, and especially the capital city Kyiv, experienced extensive aerial attacks. According to the pro-Russian Telegram channel DD Geopolitics, the attack included the use of "Geran-5" drones, Iskander-type ballistic missiles, and "Zircon" hypersonic missiles. The channel reported explosions and fires that broke out at several sites in the city, including hits to residential buildings and hotels, and noted that it was a "combined drone and missile attack" as reported by WarFront Witness.
The channel TabZ - Alternative Media — which presents a line identified with Western and Ukrainian positions — reported extensively on the scale of the Russian attack, noting launches of dozens of Kh-101 cruise missiles and Iskander missiles toward the capital. The source assessed that this was a "threat of a large-scale attack" and noted that although the Ukrainians managed to intercept some of the threats, hits to residential buildings caused significant damage and fires throughout the city.
Simultaneously, Ukraine carried out retaliatory actions deep within Russian territory. According to the channel Military_History, Kyiv confirmed two targeted strikes: one at a refinery facility in Bashkiria, over 1,300 km from the front, and the second at a military factory in Penza that produces components for the missiles that Russia launches at Ukraine. This is a continuation of the Ukrainian strategy to strike "critical military-industrial facilities" in Russia.
In addition, other reporting channels such as Openly Biased and Jewish News 24 published documentation of Ukrainian FP-5 Flamingo missiles hitting the "Titan-Barrikady" center in Volgograd. The exchange of fire is notable for its high intensity, with both sides using a wide variety of technological means to strike rear-echelon and military infrastructure of the other side.
