Exposure of the corruption scandal at the highest levels of the Iraqi Ministry of Oil
The Iraqi judicial system announced today a dramatic development in the investigation of the Deputy Minister of Oil for Refining Affairs, Adnan al-Jumaili, who is detained on suspicion of involvement in a serious corruption scandal. According to reports from واحد العراق, which is identified with the line exposing institutional corruption, the volume of funds seized has jumped to $10 million and 31 billion Iraqi dinars.
In reports citing the judiciary, as published in وكالة الأنباء العراقية (واع) and رووداو عربية, it was revealed that about 20 billion dinars were hidden inside a farm, and that an attempt to smuggle an additional 5 billion dinars in one of the provinces was prevented. The Minister of Communications, Mustafa Sanad, was quoted in واحد العراق as saying that "the 20 billion dinars are nothing, the goal was an operation to recover half a trillion dinars."
Beyond the cash, law enforcement authorities carried out a large-scale move against property suspected of being connected to the scandal. According to جريدة الصباح العراقية, 70 real estate properties, 21 modern vehicles, and about 3 kilograms of gold jewelry were seized.
Iraqi judicial sources, as reported in الميادين عراق, emphasized that "the investigations and the pursuit of the other involved parties will continue until all legal proceedings are completed." The scandal continues to agitate local public opinion, with video documentation of the cash seized in Al-Jumaili's possession being circulated on social media.
