Over the past day, numerous Arab media outlets reported on a powerful explosion heard in the area of the capital Doha and the Ras Laffan industrial area. Reuters was among the first to report on the sounds of the explosion heard across the Qatari capital, a report that gained wide resonance on social networks and news channels.

The Qatari Ministry of Interior issued an official statement confirming that "an internal explosion occurred in one of the factories in the Ras Laffan industrial area."
