Delegations from Iran and the United States arrived in the city of Zurich, Switzerland, to hold a round of technical talks which, according to the Prime Minister's Office of Pakistan, are taking place as part of the follow-up on the implementation of the "Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding." The talks, which are expected to last two days, are also expected to be attended by the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, and the Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan, as reported by Al Jazeera.
On the United States side, Vice President J.D. Vance left Andrews Air Force Base on his way to Switzerland. In a CNN report, it was noted that Vance will conduct the contacts with the Iranian side in a multilateral forum. Conversely, the Iranian Foreign Ministry clarified that the arrival of the delegation—which includes Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi—is intended "to demand the implementation of the other side's obligations" and not necessarily to reach a new final agreement.
Al-Mayadeen network, which is affiliated with the Axis of Resistance, emphasized in its coverage the Iranian message that "Iran has fulfilled its obligations, and the other side is obligated to force the Zionist entity to stop its attack on Lebanon." The Iranian delegation clarified that "if the other side does not fulfill its obligations, all understandings will be in jeopardy" (according to Quds News Network).
Government sources in Pakistan confirmed to Al Jazeera that the country will act as a mediator along with Qatar to facilitate the technical dialogue. Official representatives from both mediating countries are also expected to participate in the talks, which underscores the increased regional involvement in the contacts between Tehran and Washington.
