On Wednesday morning, May 13, 2026, a security incident took place in the center of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, when an explosion was heard near the Writers' Club in the area adjacent to Sheikh Zayed Hospital.

Al-Iraq One Channel reported in its initial broadcasts on a "security incident" and claimed it was an "attack that struck the Writers' Union headquarters using a sound grenade". This report was echoed by Al-Ahrar News Network, which described the event as a direct attack using a sound grenade.

Conversely, the Iraqi Interior Ministry, in information published in Al-Sabah Iraqi Newspaper and the Iraqi News Agency, clarified that it involved the throwing of a "sound fuse" (sound fuse/sound bomb). The official report published in Ultra Iraq emphasized that it was an initiative by an "unknown person" at around 05:50 in the morning. According to the Interior Ministry, the incident did not cause loss of life or material damage, and the authorities explicitly denied that the Writers' Union headquarters was attacked.

Baghdad Today News Agency reported on the explosion near the club and noted that the Al-Karrada district police department has launched an official investigation to uncover the circumstances of the case. The ministry called on the public to "exercise caution when disseminating information," against the backdrop of the early reports that presented a more severe picture of the event.
