[48955] Tension in the Gulf: US seized an Iranian ship; Revolutionary Guards threaten
The US Central Command announced the seizure of an Iranian ship and the transfer of its crew to Pakistan, while Iran warns ships in the area.
Maritime escalation in the Persian Gulf and the Arabian Sea
In the last 24 hours, a sharp rise in maritime tension has been recorded in the region. According to reports by Al Jazeera and Al-Ghad News, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that the Iranian ship "Tuska" and its crew were transferred to Pakistan, as a preliminary step to their return to Iran.
Wahed Al-Iraq, identified with critical positions toward US activity in the region, published documentation of the "boarding and seizure operation" carried out by US forces on the commercial ship in the Arabian Sea. According to the report, 22 of the crew members were transferred to temporary detention in Pakistan.
Simultaneously, the Lebanese channel Al Mayadeen, identified with the Axis of Resistance, reported that Washington is trying to promote what it called the "Freedom Project" to remove stranded ships from the Gulf under humanitarian cover. However, the channel emphasizes that there is "ambiguity regarding coordination with Iran" and that there are warnings of possible escalation in the case of a US military escort through the strait.
In response to the events, Ahrar Al-Urdun reported that the Iranian Revolutionary Guards sent a threatening message to ships sailing in the Gulf, with an unequivocal call: "Leave the area".
