[45381] World Food Programme warns: Lebanon is facing an unprecedented hunger crisis
Severe humanitarian crisis in Lebanon
A spokesperson for the World Food Programme (WFP) clarified in a conversation with Al Jazeera, which is known for an editorial line that emphasizes the suffering of the civilian population in conflict zones, that Lebanon is in the midst of "one of the most severe food insecurity disasters in its history."
According to the spokesperson, as reported by Al Jazeera, the central and only solution to the nutritional crisis lies in a "ceasefire." The organization notes that aid efforts are facing objective difficulties; according to Al Jazeera, "the security situation disrupts food aid operations," which makes it difficult to bring in aid convoys on a daily basis.
Aid data and challenges on the ground:
- Scope of aid: The organization provides daily aid to about 600,000 people, as published by Al Jazeera and Radio Voice of Al-Quds, a station affiliated with the Palestinian and resistance narrative.
- Financial difficulties: The organization is facing "funding challenges" that make it difficult to continue providing aid at the required scale (Al Jazeera).
- Agricultural damage: The situation is exacerbated by heavy damage caused to the Lebanese agricultural sector, which deepens the national food distress (Al Jazeera).
In reports also quoted by Al-Ghad News, it was emphasized that aid efforts are currently focused on the "poorest, weakest, and most vulnerable" segments of the population in Lebanon, in recognition of the severity of the situation facing residents as a result of the fighting.
